大学図書館に広がる電子書籍のPatron-Driven Acquisitions “PDA”と呼ばれる電子書籍の購入方法が米国の大学図書館を中心に広がりつつある。 PDAは“Patron-Driven Acqusitions”の略であり，「利用者主導型購入方式」などと訳されている。呼び表し方は様々で，“Purchase On Demand”“Demand-Driven Acquisitons”“User-Initiated Collection Development”などと言われることもある。 PDAは，図書館における選書の一形態であり，図書館側だけで資料を選ぶのではなく，利用者が希望あるいは実際に利用したものを購入する（または購入の検討を行う）というものである。PDAの対象には紙媒体の資料も含まれているが（ILLで申込があった資料を購入する），以下では電子書籍のPDAについて紹介する。
