自身主催の「桜を見る会」を巡る問題について記者団の質問に答える安倍晋三首相＝首相官邸で2019年11月15日午後0時6分、川田雅浩撮影 「桜を見る会」の前日に開かれた「前夜祭」の会費が5000円だったことについて、安倍晋三首相は15日夕の取材対応の際に「ホテル側が設定した」と述べた上で、「毎年使っているとか、どれぐらいの規模とか、宿泊しているとか、他のホテルの競合とか、ホテル側は総合的に勘案して決めているのだろう」と語り、会費の水準に問題はなかったとの認識を示した。 「前夜祭」は2012年末の第2次安倍内閣発足後に毎年、桜を見る会の前日に東京都内のホテルで開かれている。今年はホテルニューオータニで行われており、野党は「相場より相当安い」と問題視し、差額を首相側が負担した可能性があると主張している。
