The Polaris Dawn crew is back on Earth after a historic mission
米Microsoftの研究部門であるMicrosoft Researchは10月8日(現地時間)、腕に巻いた端末で手の動きを取り込み、リアルタイムの3D映像に再現するシステム「Digits」を発表した。指差したりピースマークを作るといった細かい手の形をトラッキングできる。 将来的にはKinectのようにXboxやPCの画面の制御や、オーディオ機器のオン・オフ、音量調整、ポケットに入っているスマートフォンを遠隔で利用するといった活用方法が考えられるという。 手の動きをトラッキングするツールは数十年前からあるが、多くはデータグローブなどと呼ばれる手袋を手にはめるスタイルだった。Digitsの端末は、手首に巻くようになっている。小型プロジェクタで出力する赤外線をLEDで拡散させて手全体に当て、それを赤外線カメラで撮影することで、手の動きを取り込む。動画を見ると、端末には電源も搭載されているようで
