グーグル、密漁対策で環境保護団体と提携

世界中の海で魚の違法な「乱獲」がもはや看過できない段階に達している。この現状を改善しようと、Googleが支援に乗り出した。オーストラリアのシドニーで現地時間11月14日、「Global Fishing Watch」と呼ばれる新しい取り組みが発表された。衛星データとクラウドコンピューティングを利用してリアルタイムで漁を追跡し、違法な漁獲に制限をかけようとする試みだ。 Googleと環境保護団体OceanaおよびSkyTruthの提携によって実現したGlobal Fishing Watchは、すでに2012～2013年の漁業活動が浮き彫りになるほどに十分なデータを蓄積している。同グループは現在、漁業活動をほぼリアルタイムで表示し、密漁が行われている場所を当局がすぐに発見できるようにする一般向けのサービスに取り組んでいるという。 Global Fishing Watchのウェブサイトによると、
