To my irony there ain't much choice nor there exist any really really good IDE or editor for Rails on Ubuntu(or rather Linux in general). UPDATE 2014: This post is pretty old and Gedit didn't evolve much. If you are really interested in a Text Editor for Linux and other OS, which is Open Source and modular.. I raccomend Atom Editor! Gedit is the default text editor provided with Gnome in Ubuntu and other distro. It look very simple, but it extensible with plugins. Here a list of some cool features and styles you can add it. tscreen is a fork of GNU Screen. It is a perpetual work in progress. Why fork? I use Debian GNU/Linux, and the screen packages there have several things missing, or not available fully.
