1. 概要 最新版のデータについては、宇宙から見た夜の地球：DMSP衛星による地球の夜景データ（1992年〜2012年：Google Maps版）をご覧下さい。 米国NOAAが提供する「宇宙から見た地球の夜景」。地球からの非常に暗い光を観測できるユニークな気象衛星DMSP (defense meteorological satellite program)が観測した膨大なデータの中から、常に出現する光源のみを全地球的に収集したものがWorld Stable Lightsデータである。 このデータは、月光に照らされた雲の検出といった気象向けの用途にとどまらず、市街地の照明・火事・油田の炎・漁火・雷・オーロラなどの光の検出にも使うことができる。そしてその結果は、人間活動に関する情報の収集（人口分布や経済活動等）や、森林火災の発見、天文学のための光害推定などに利用されている。 データセットとして
