よくアニソンとかの歌詞で「解けない方程式」みたいなフレーズが出てくるが、代数方程式だって5次方程式(たった5次!)以上になったら一般には解けないし、微分方程式に至っては「ミレニアム懸賞問題」として100万ドルの懸賞金が懸かってたりする難しさなわけで、たいていの方程式は解けなくて当たり前なんだよ!って、聞くたびにツッコミたくなる。 つまり、「解ける方程式」なんてほとんど無いのだから、「解けない方程式」に悩むなんて、空が飛べる翼がないことに悩むくらい実現不可能な空想であり、そもそも悩み方として間違っている。 というかまずは、お前の歌詞で求める「解」は近似解ではダメなのか、どうしてダメなのか、歌詞はせいぜい10分も無いけど、小一時間膝を付き合わせて問い詰めたい。ゼミを開いてお前の意図を詳らかにしたい。 ガロア群が可解にならないからって諦める前に、最適化のための近似アルゴリズムを試せよ。ニュートン

慶應義塾大学大学院理工学研究科 KiPAS 数論幾何グループの平川義之輔(博士課程 3 年)と松村英樹(博士課程 2 年)は、『辺の長さが全て整数となる直角三角形と二等辺三角形の組の中には、周の長さも面積も共に等しい組が(相似を除いて)たった 1 組しかない』という、これまで知られていなかった定理の証明に成功しました。 線の長さや図形の面積は、私たちの身の回りにあるものを測量する際に欠かせない基本的な「幾何学」的対象です。例えば、辺の長さが 3、4、5 の直角三角形は教科書でもおなじみの図形ですが、辺の長さが全て「整数」となる直角三角形はどのくらいあるか?という問題は、古代ギリシャ時代に研究がなされた重要な問題でした。この流れを汲んで 20 世紀に大きく発展した現代数学の一分野が「数論幾何学」です。 本研究では、数論幾何学における「p 進 Abel 積分論」と「有理点の降下法」を応用するこ
ある数が割り切れるかどうか、つまりnの倍数であるかどうかを知りたい場面は結構たくさんある。分数を約分するときや、身近なところだと割り勘を計算するときなどだ。 場面の多さに比して、ふつう倍数の判定は難しい。例えば「64811は11の倍数か?」に瞬時に答えられる人はそう多くないはずだ。 ただし、いくつかの小さい整数に対しては、その倍数に関する法則が広く知られていて簡単に見分けられることがある。 例えば、2の倍数なら必ず一の位は2の倍数(偶数)になる。3の倍数であれば、各桁の数字を足し合わせると和が3の倍数になる(例:357→3+5+7=15は3の倍数)。特に3の倍数の判定法は簡単なので知っておくと便利だ。 ほかのいくつかの素数に対しても、簡単な判定法があるので以下の画像にまとめてみた。また、合成数の判定はこれらを組み合わせて行えばよい(例えば6の倍数は2と3どちらの倍数でもあることを判定するこ

こんばんは。艦これのメンテが伸びてしまったのでTwitterをダラダラ見ていたら、こんなソフトが紹介されていました。 Download Microsoft Mathematics 4.0 (英語) from Official Microsoft Download Center (英語)とか書かれていますけど、ページに行けば普通に日本語版がダウンロードできます。 試しに起動してみたんですが、こいつが相当にすごい。数学のソフトで無料のものと言ったら、自分が知ってるものではscilabとかfunctionViewとかぐらいしかなかったんですが、このMicrosoft Mathematicsは数学の宿題を消すために生まれてきたかのようなソフトです。 たとえば、とても簡単な例として、xを0~1で定積分を求めると、 こんな感じで回答が出るんですが、注目すべきはこの中央の「解法」ってところです。試しに押
一か月ほど前に New York Times で紹介されていた記事。 The Pi Machine - NYTimes.com ここで紹介されているのは、なんと驚くべきことに、2つのボールをぶつけるだけで円周率(3.1415...)の値がわかる、という内容。 これだけだと、全然ピンとこないと思うので、もう少し詳しく説明すると、次のようなことが書かれている。 ↓2つのボールを、下の図ように壁と床のある空間に置く。 ↓その後、壁から遠い方のボールを、他方に向かって転がす。 後は、ボールが衝突する回数をカウントするだけで、円周率がわかるらしい。 これでも、なんだかよくわからない。 まず2つのボールが同じ質量である場合を考えてみよう。 まず、手前のボールが他方のボールにぶつかる(これが1回め)。 続いて、ぶつかったボールが移動して壁にぶつかる(これが2回め)。 壁にぶつかったボールが跳ね返ってきて
