LEGO「MINDSTORMS NXT」を使ったロボット競技会「ETソフトウェアデザインロボットコンテスト2014」（ETロボコン2014）が2014年11月19日、パシフィコ横浜にて開催された。 2013年大会で新たに「アーキテクト部門」が開設され（関連記事：魅せる！ 笑わせる！ 新設「アーキテクト部門」に大注目 ～ETロボコン2013チャンピオンシップ大会～ ）、大幅にリニューアルしたETロボコンであるが、今大会も新型の走行体を使った新しいクラスが追加されるなど見どころが満載だ。それでは大会の様子をさっそくお伝えしよう。 2014年のETロボコンは2部門3クラス制に変更 ETロボコンは、世界をリードするエンジニアの育成を目指して、若手や初級エンジニアの教育機会として始められた競技会である。2002年に前身の「UMLロボットコンテスト」としてスタートしており、開催は今回で13回目となる。

7月26日に神戸電子専門学校で，関西LEGO競技会が開催されました． 昨年までは，伊丹市のラスタホールのエントランスで開催され，地元のたまたまその場にいらっしゃる老若男女のギャラリーが興味深く見学していくというのが特徴でしたが，今年は学校内の一室で開催したため，ETロボコンを知らないという方が見学するということはありませんでしたが，その分集中して調整できたのかもしれません． この関西LEGO競技会のルーツは，3年前に遡ります．当時のETロボコンは東京に全国の出場チームが集結し，予選会を開催していました．残念ながら予選会で敗退したチームは，そこでETロボコンの一年が終了してしまうため，予選会を勝ち抜いたチームに対して，もう一度敗者が挑戦させてもらう機会をということで関西地区から参加の数チームが集まり大会を開催したというのが始まりです．別名，負け犬チャンピオンシップ大会と当時は呼ばれていました
