【コラム】日本で見た本当の救急病院の姿 少し前に、札幌でアジア・太平洋災難・緊急治療学会が開かれた。災害で大量の死傷者が発生した際、病院がどのように対処すべきかを議論する場だった。学会の期間中、札幌市立病院の救急センターを訪れる機会があった。 そこは札幌で2番目に大きい病院で、救急センターも当然、患者で混み合っているだろうと予想していた。しかし、病院の玄関を入った瞬間、その予想は外れだったことが分かった。センターには患者が一人もおらず、静まり返っていた。どういうことなのかと尋ねた。医療陣は、救急患者は1日に3、4人ほど来ると説明した。韓国の大病院の救急センターには、毎日150人から250人の患者が押し寄せ、市場のにぎわいを思わせるほどだが、この病院にはなぜ患者がこれほど少ないのか理解ができなかった。 そのわけは、次の通りだった。ここは、徹底して重症の緊急患者だけを受け入れるという。交通事故
