英語では、動物の群れに対する表現が実に多様だ。おそらく、狩猟採集生活の時代には、このような表現の多様性が重要だったのだろう。 ライオンの群れはプライド、ゴリラの群れはバンド、キリンの群れはタワー、このくらいは知っていた。 さきほど、偶然に、 Animal Congregations, or What Do You Call a Group of.....? というサイトを見つけた。これは便利だ。 バッファローの群れはギャング、これはなるほどと思う。 カンガルーの群れはトループ、これもわかる気がする。しかし、 クマの群れはsloth, カバの群れはbloat, トラの群れはstreak,・・・ まったく意味がわからん。 鳥にいたってはもっとわからん。 Cranes（ツル）の群れはsedge, Eagles(ワシ）の群れはconvocation, Hawks（タカ）の群れはcast, Owls
