航空と宇宙の狭間にて －番外編 右？左？－ | 夢を飛ばす人々～航空研究者が綴るコラム～ | JAXA航空技術部門
今回は“狭間”ではあるものの“航空と宇宙”の間ではないので“番外編”ということにさせてください。異文化の接点みたいな話題です。 私が航空宇宙技術研究所に入所して最初の仕事は小型ロケットの頭胴部（簡単に言うと先端に近い部分のことです）の風洞試験などでした。その報告書に入れるため風洞試験を行った頭胴部模型の図を作ったら、頭が右を向いた図を見て当時の上司であったK主任研究官は“ああ、そうか。それでもいいけど、航空（の世界）では先端が左になるように描くのが普通なんだよね。”と。実は私は大学では物理を専攻していました。それがどう間違ったのか航空宇宙という世界に入り込んでしまったわけで、航空のそういう“常識”がないところから仕事を始めたわけです。優しいK主任研究官は“それでもいい”と言ってくれましたが、新人の私はちゃんと描き直しました。 航空機（ロケットも）の先端は左に向けて描くということは当たり前す
