米アマゾンは9月28日、ニューヨークのプレス向け発表会にて新しいKindle端末3機種を発表した。 発表がウワサされていたタブレット端末は、『Kindle Fire』という名前で登場。OSに従来のLinuxではなくAndroid2.1を採用する。 従来のKindle端末と違い、タッチ操作が可能な7インチのカラー液晶を搭載する。マイクやカメラを搭載せず、コミュニケーションツールというよりは、あくまでも電子書籍リーダーとしての機能がメインとなっているが、今年3月にサービスを開始した『Amazon Cloud Drive』を通じて、電子書籍だけでなく動画や音楽といった米アマゾンで取り扱っているあらゆるコンテンツを楽しむことが可能。 WiFiモデルのみで価格は199ドル(約1万5000円)とiPad2(499ドル)やGalaxyTab10.1(399ドル)の半分以下。米国での製品出荷は11月15日
