これまでの記事では震災直後からの Google の取り組みを紹介してきた。被害の少なかった首都圏や西日本では、Twitter や Google のクライシスレスポンスは注目を集めた。では、被災地でこれらのサービスは役立ったのだろうか？ 震災直後、インターネット上の各種支援サービスは本当に人々の役に立ったのか。今回ほど IT が活躍した自然災害はないという声がある一方、本連載の読者からも、通信インフラが絶大な被害を被った状況で IT は役に立たなかったのではないか、という厳しい意見をいただいている。 その答えは簡単には出てこない。被災地域はあまりにも広く、被害の状況は千差万別。置かれた状況によって被災者が求めている情報もまったく異なるからだ。 大きな被害にあった東北地方沿岸部であれば、真っ先に知りたかった情報は、避難場所であり、余震への対処方法であったろう。大きな揺れを感じた程度に留まった東
