大学院・研究者を目指す人へ
以下の文章は、Hal Whiteheadのゼミで読むべきものとされていたものを日本語訳したものです（訳の間違いは天野に責任があります。見つけられたらご連絡を）。実は、アメリカの生態学系の大学院では広く読むことを奨められている文章のようです。大学院に進んで、研究者を目指すときに重要な点がいくつもストレートに述べられています。観点がやや異なる二つの文章がありますが、結局言っていることにあまり違いはないように思います。日本とアメリカの大学院というシステムの違いもありますし、若干古い文章で現状とは合わなくなっている点もありますが、私の研究室のみならず、どこの大学ででも海棲哺乳類の研究を目指す人にとって重要な指針となるものと思います。大学院進学を決める前に目を通しておいて損はないでしょう。少なくとも私の研究室に大学院生として進学を希望する人は、研究者を目指す心構えで来て欲しいですし、入学すればそのよ
