北海道芽室町の畑で、10本以上のアスパラガスが一体となって1メートル近くの高さまで成長し、地元の人たちを驚かせています。 アスパラガス12本の茎が幅12センチ、厚さ1センチの帯状に一体となって1本の大きなアスパラガスとして成長していて、高さも1メートル近くまで伸びています。畑には、一目見ようと近くの保育所の子どもたちが集まり、「大きい」、「すごい」と歓声を上げていました。 十勝農業改良普及センターによりますと、これは「帯化」と呼ばれ、農作物や草花に比較的見られる現象だということですが、12本もの茎が一体化するのは珍しいということです。 鳥本さんは「最初見つけたときはサボテンかと思って不思議でした。30年ほどアスパラガスを育てていますが、こんな経験は初めてです。珍しいから食べるのはもったいないので、倒れないように支えて経過を見ていきたい」と話していました。
