広島大学 第６回 升島 努 教授 （大学院医歯薬学総合研究科）
升島教授の研究は、主に分析化学、薬学分野での分析法開発が中心です。教授は常に新しい視点から研究に取り組み、最近「質量分析（※1）」を用いた細胞分析において、新しい方法（※2）を確立しました。 新分析法によって教授が可能にしたのは、わずか１pl（※3）にも満たない１個の細胞の動きをビデオで観察し、変化の瞬間、その中にひそむ数千種類の分子を直接一斉に分析し、うごめいた分子が何であるかを、より速くより的確に特定すること。このことは、ライフサイエンスや医療の加速に大きく貢献するものと評価され、今年９月、日本分析化学会の2008年・学会賞に選ばれました。 （※1）分子の重さを量って、その分子が何であるかを特定すること。2002年にノーベル賞を受賞した島津製作所の田中耕一さんの研究で注目された。 （※2）「Live Single-Cell Mass Spectrometry」Nature誌Edito
