W3C、次期HTMLの策定作業を開始--最終仕様は2010年第3四半期に
World Wide Web Consortium（W3C）は3月7日、ウェブページ技術言語HTMLの新版を検討するワーキンググループ「HTML Working Group（WG）」の設置を発表した。現在W3Cは、同WGへの参加を呼びかけている。HTMLの新版は、2007年6月に最初の草案を公開し、最終版を2010年第3四半期にリリースする予定。 現時点で標準とされているHTMLは、1999年12月リリースの「HTML 4.01」である。これに対し、W3CはXML形式でのウェブページ記述を目指し、HTMLベースの仕様「XHTML 1.0」を2000年に公開した。ところが、すでにHTMLで作られたウェブコンテンツが多数存在していたため、「当時のウェブブラウザ事業者らはXHTMLの採用には消極的で、その普及は遅々として進まなかった」（W3C）という。 こうした状況から、W3Cは改めてHTMLを
