22日午後6時46分ごろ、東部・花蓮県寿豊郷を震源とする地震が1分以内に2回あった。中央気象署（気象庁）によれば、地震の規模を示すマグニチュード（M）は1度目が4.8、2度目が5.4。震源の深さは1度目が9.6キロ、2度目が3.4キロだった。いずれも花蓮県で最大震度4を観測した。
