ウクライナへの軍事侵攻をめぐり、ロシア国防省と、ロシア軍に協力していた雇い兵組織ワグネルとの確執が高まる中、ロシア当局は23日夜、ワグネル創設者エフゲニー・プリゴジン氏を武装蜂起呼びかけの疑いで捜査していると明らかにした。これに先駆けプリゴジン氏は、ロシア軍がワグネル部隊をミサイル攻撃したと非難。指導部にいる「悪」を阻止しなくてはならないとして、「正義のために行進する」と表明していた。プリゴジン氏がロシア南西部ロストフ・ナ・ドヌで、ロシア軍の南部軍管区司令部に入った様子とされる動画が拡散している。 民間軍事組織ワグネルは、正規のロシア軍と共にウクライナとで戦ってきたが、創設者プリゴジン氏は数カ月前からロシア軍幹部への名指しの非難を激化させていた。
国軍と準軍事組織「迅速支援部隊(RSF)」の戦闘が続くスーダンをめぐり、ロシアの雇い兵組織「ワグネル」が批判されている。商業や軍事の面でスーダンに関係しているとされるからだ。だがワグネルは、現在の紛争には関与していないとしている。 ワグネル創設者でウラジーミル・プーチン大統領と近いエフゲニー・プリゴジン氏は、ここ2年以上「ワグネルPMC(民間軍事会社)の戦闘員は1人もスーダンにいない」と説明している。 BBCは、現時点でスーダンにロシアの雇い兵がいるとは確認できていない。ただ、過去にスーダンでワグネルが活動していた証拠はある。また、プリゴジン氏のスーダンでの活動は、アメリカと欧州連合(EU)の両方から制裁の対象にされている。
