この菌を持つ人が高血圧になったり喫煙したりすると特に危ないといい、菌を検出する簡易な用具の開発を進めている。２８日の英科学誌ネイチャー・コミュニケーションズ電子版で発表する。 虫歯菌のうち、皮膚や骨などの組織になるコラーゲンと結合するたんぱく質を作る特殊な種類で、脳出血患者７４人を調べると２７％が持っていた。健康な３５人でも９％が持っており、両者を分析すると、この菌を持つことで脳出血の危険性は４倍高まるとわかった。 人から採取したこの菌をマウスに感染させて実験。脳の血管内皮に傷をつけると、下層のコラーゲン繊維に菌がどんどん集まり、血小板による傷の修復が間に合わず出血を起こした。 この菌があってもすぐに脳出血を起こすわけではないが、高血圧や加齢、ストレス、喫煙などで血管内皮が弱ったり、傷ついたりすると、発症率が上がるとみられる。検出用具は１年後の実用化を目指し、除菌方法の研究にも取り組む。
Modified ecstasy 'attacks blood cancers'
Modified ecstasy could one day have a role to play in fighting some blood cancers, according to scientists. Ecstasy is known to kill some cancer cells, but scientists have increased its effectiveness 100-fold, they said in Investigational New Drugs journal. Their early study showed all leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma cells could be killed in a test tube, but any treatment would be a decade away.
