もう全然気合が足りないので、自分への戒めも含めて「新サービス開発」について思いつくままにメモ残します。 新サービスを開発するときには： コンセプト = メタファーを決める メタファーとは、「そのサービスって、つまり○○だよね」の○○に当てはまる具体的な言葉です。 どんなサービスでも「既存の言葉」に当てはめないと理解しにくいので。 「GPS機能で配送遅延から距離を感じられるオンラインメッセージングツール」じゃなくて「それって伝書鳩」みたいな。 これは知り合いに説明してみるとヒントが得られること多しです。 サービス名を決める ドメイン取るとかの理由もありますが、名前が決まっているかどうかで作業のはかどり方が全然違います。 アイデア ⇒ 開発 ⇒ 仕上げ の苦しみ度合いを理解しておく 実は開発する作業が一番楽です。厳しいのは仕上げ。途中で萎えないような工夫が必要だったりします。 時間をかけて悩ん

◆追記 評判良かったので大幅に加筆訂正してみました。 ちょっと昨日、一昨日と携帯向けサイトを作っていたのですが、最近の携帯電話事情がわからず、どういうタグを使えばいいのかとか、CSSは対応しているのかとか、文字コードの問題はどうするのかとかいろいろわからないところが多かったので、ちょっと自分なりに調べてまとめてみます。 間違いが含まれている可能性が非常に高いです。 突っ込み大歓迎。 前提 キャリア別とか2G用にテンプレートを複数作って対応というのは個人で出来るレベルじゃないので、モバイル向けは１ページごとに１枚のテンプレート追加で作る。 なるべくPC向けのテンプレートを大幅に修正しなければいけないようなものは避ける。 長くなるので最初にまとめ ・文字コードはUTF-8。 ・マークアップ言語はXHTML Basic。 ・画像はJPEGかGIF。 ・CSSはインラインで書く。
ユーザーに尋ねても必ずしも正しい答えは返ってこない
今日はたまたま「ユーザーからのフィードバックを集めることの難しさ」が話題になったので、それに関連するエントリー。 もの作りにおいて、「ユーザーが何を必要としているか」を知ることは大切だが、だからと言ってユーザーに尋ねれば正しい答えが返ってくる訳ではないところが難しいところ。具体的な例としては、こんなものがある。 1. サイレント・マジョリティの声は聞こえてこない これはMicrosoftで実際にあったことだが、Outlookのチームではユーザーから寄せられる機能追加のリクエストに従って色々な機能を足していた時期があったが、その結果不必要な機能ばかり増えて、単純な作業が逆にやりにくくなってしまった（たとえばカスタム・フォームが良い例）。このケースでは、ごく一部のヘビー・ユーザーばかりが声がでかく、「今の機能で十分、これ以上複雑にしないで欲しい」というユーザーは何も言ってこない（こういう人たち

I’ve always preferred sketching UIs with an as-thick-as-I-can-find Sharpie over a thin ballpoint pen or finely sharpened pencil. Ballpoints and fine tips just don’t fill the page like a Sharpie does.
