モバイルWiMAX、2月26日始動--月額4480円で下り最大40Mbps
UQコミュニケーションズは2月26日、高速無線通信技術「モバイルWiMAX」を利用したモバイルデータ通信サービス「UQ WiMAX」を開始する。まずは東京23区、横浜市、川崎市で提供し、6月末までに東名阪にエリアを広げる。 料金はデータ定額で月額4480円。別途、登録料が2835円かかる。契約期間に縛りは設けない。 モバイルWiMAXはIEEE 802.16eと呼ばれる通信規格。理論値では下り最大40Mbps、上り最大10Mbpsの通信が可能だ。UQコミュニケーションズの実験では、室内に基地局を設置した場合、実測で下り約17Mbps、上り約4Mbpsの速度が出ていた。基地局は500局程度で開始し、夏までには1000局程度にまで拡大する方針だ。 データ端末は、USBスティック型の「UD01SS」、コネクタが最大180度回転するUSB接続型の「UD01NA」、ExpressCard/34型の「
