高校進学率と大学進学率、及び大学院進学率について戦後からの推移を掲げた。 高校進学率は高度経済成長期に上昇を続け、1970年代半ば頃に9割以上となった後、ほぼ横ばいで漸増という傾向に転じた。近年は96.5％前後となっていたが2017年以降低下傾向にある。特にコロナ禍が襲った2020年以降低下幅が大きくなった。 高度成長期前期には中卒就職者が「金の卵」として引っ張りだこだった。地方の中卒、高卒が卒業直後に集団就職列車と呼ばれた臨時列車で東京に出てくる時代が1954年から1975年まで続いた。1950年代前半にはなお高校進学率が5割以下であった。 大学進学率については、1950年代には約1割であった。高校進学率と同様1970年代半ばまで急増し、1976年には38.6％という第１のピークに達した。 その後、大学進学率は微減傾向に転じたが、1980年代からハイテクブームが訪れ、高度技術者など大卒へ
