海洋研究開発機構は２２日、北極海の海底に設置していた潮流や水温などの観測装置４機（計５千万円分）をなくしたと発表した。２００８年度と０９年度に水深１０６〜２８２メートルの海底に設置。今月上旬から回収作業をしていた。 海洋機構によると、海底から装置を切り離し、回収するための信号を送ったが反応がなく、流失した可能性が高いという。装置は流速計や水温塩分計などをワイヤでつなげてあり、１機１千万円から２千万円。 海洋機構は８月にも、紀伊半島沖で海底掘削調査用のパイプなど約１億３千万円相当の機材を紛失している。
