昨日、「仕事で自己実現をしなければならない、というまやかし」と題した記事を書いて、仕事と自己実現が必ずセットで語られる風潮を批判した。この記事には結構な反響があり、中には否定的な意見もいくつか見られた。 今日はその反対意見の中で、僕がもっとも気になったものについて書きたいと思う。それは、「人生の大半を占めるのは仕事なのだから、やはり仕事で自己実現をするのが一番よい」という意見だ。 この意見については、僕はそもそも前提の置き方に疑問を感じている。この意見が前提としている、「人生の大半を占めるのは仕事だ」というのは、どうしても動かしがたい、絶対に受け入れなければならないような事実なんだろうか。 確かに、現代日本の典型的雇用感に則って、週に5日間、基本的に毎日残業をして、時には休日出勤も行い、大学卒業から定年までの40年間サラリーマンをし続けるというのであれば、「人生の大半を占めるのは仕事」と言
