米アップルの情報端末「ｉＰａｄ（アイパッド）」が人気を集める中、書籍を安く電子化し、ｉＰａｄなどで読めるようにする業者が現れた。 個人が私的にコピーする以外の複製は著作権法で禁じられており、日本文芸家協会は、著作者が出版社に委託した複製権の侵害にあたるとして業者への抗議を検討している。 東京のある業者は４月、本を裁断して１ページごとにスキャナーで読み取り、ＰＤＦと呼ばれる電子文書形式に変換するサービスを始めた。本の送料は自己負担だが、１冊分のデータを１００円でホームページからダウンロードできるサービスが評判を呼び、注文が殺到。スキャナーの台数などを増やしたが、注文から納品まで３か月待ちという。 業者は「個人が複製するのは合法。個人の依頼を受けて代行しているだけで、著作権法違反ではない」と主張する。都内の別の業者も５月末に営業を始め、２日間で２００人以上の申し込みがあったという。 一
