Googleは「Google Cloud Platform」の新機能として「Google Cloud Functions」のアルファテストを開始した。同機能を用いることで、クラウドサービス上で発生した変更によって自動的に起動されるイベントを記述できるようになるため、開発者は幅広いサービスの開発が容易に行えるようになる。 同社はCloud Functionsを「軽量かつ、イベントベースで動作する非同期的なコンピュートソリューション」だとしたうえで、これによって、サーバやランタイム環境の管理を必要とせず、クラウド上のイベントによって起動される単一目的の小さな機能を作成できるようになると述べている。 クラウド上の「イベント」とは、開発者のクラウド環境上で発生するものごとであり、例を挙げるとデータベースの更新や、ストレージシステムに対するファイルの追加、仮想マシンのインスタンス生成などだ。 イベン
