お気に入りの Baskerville を見つける (Weblog Yuyusanbo)
バスカーヴィルは金属活字とデジタルフォントの違いが大きい書体です。活字といっても18世紀のオリジナル版のことは良くわからないので、20世紀の Monotype Baskerville (Series 169) のことですが。モノタイプ活字版は最高の書体の一つだと思います。なんとかその雰囲気をデジタルで再現できないでしょうか。いろいろ考えてみました。 バスカーヴィルの特徴としては「コントラストが強い」ことが良く指摘されます。しかしモノタイプ活字版は、DTPでの印刷物に慣れた今日の眼で見ると、それほどコントラストが「強い」ようには見えません。私の主観で表現すると、コントラストが「艶かしい」という感じに見えます。端正なフォルムと、絶妙なコントラストの両立。美しいですね。 この写真は1958年にイギリスで印刷された本です。11ポイント活字を行間ベタで組んでいます。 横幅がやや広い。字間が狭い。にも
