個人的な興味というより，雑用絡みで眺めた論文の紹介．機械学習アルゴリズムを並列分散化するという話が最近流行っているようだ．全然網羅的ではないけど，誰かの役に立つかも知れないので，幾つかメモしておく．まず古典的にはこれ， Map-reduce for machine learning on multicore (NIPS 2006) 古典的な機械学習アルゴリズム（バッチ学習）の多くは，Statistical Query Model で記述できて，それらは summation form で記述できる (から，MapReduce で並列化できる)．実装は Mahout．ただ最近は，バッチアルゴリズムで解ける問題には多くの場合対応するオンラインアルゴリズムが提案されていて，バッチアルゴリズムを並列化することのメリットはあまり無い．オンラインアルゴリズムだとパラメタが連続的に更新されるので，MapR

Percy Liang の "Type-Based MCMC" (NAACL 2010) [PDF] を何回かに分けて読んでいて, ようやくほぼ理解できた。 これはすごい論文です。非常に基礎的な話で, 統計の専門ジャーナルにも余裕で 通る話だと思いましたが, NAACLという。Michael Jordanが第2(第3でなく)著者なので, 恐らく Jordan のテイストが結構入っているのだと思います。 よくこれだけの内容を8ページに書いたなぁ..というのが最初の感想で, ちなみに, かなりベイズ的な議論に慣れていないと, 普通の自然言語処理の人だとそもそも何を 言っているのかさっぱりわからないかも知れないと思いました。 少し前に情処論文誌でトンデモ査読をされて唖然としたので, 余計にそう思うのかもしれませんが..。 *1 内部のベイズ勉強会では別の話 ("Painless Unsuperv

NAACL/HLT 2009報告 - DO++
コロラド・ボルドーで開催されたNAACL/HLT 2009に行ってきました。 NAACLは自分の中での分類では自然言語処理の学会で統計的な手法とかが多い学会に思える（それに対しヨーロッパではEACLでは文法とか言語理論とかが多い）。比較的自分にあう学会。 開催地となったコロラド大ボルダー校はとてもきれいなキャンパスで（、「全米で最も美しいキャンパス」の4位にランキング）、宇宙飛行士をたくさん輩出してたり、ノーベル物理学賞を４名輩出するなど、研究レベルも高いそうです。 で、学会は適当に休みながらまったり聞いていたのですが全体的に教師無学習に関する話が多かったような気がします。教師有学習による言語処理がある程度成熟してきているのに対し、教師無の方はまだまだ伸びしろが多いので研究がしやすいのでしょう。教師無に利用するモデルも、単純な混合分布から、様々な分布が入り乱れる複雑なグラフィカルモデルにな
