DNS前史：HOSTS.TXTとドメイン名ができるまで

「Windows 10ミニTips」は各回の作成時点で最新のWindows 10環境を使用しています。 2020年8月上旬から、Windows 10 バージョン2004の「Windowsセキュリティ」に変更が加わった。厳密なバージョンや時期は不明だが、「%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts」ファイルに特定のドメインをローカルホストとして指定すると「hostsファイルがハイジャックされた」との警告と、修正をうながすようになったのである。 hostsファイルを書き換えると現れるWindowsセキュリティの警告情報 TCP/IPではIPアドレスとホスト名の対応を記述するhostsが存在し、現在ではDNSサーバーによって管理することが一般的のため、ほぼ使う場面はない。それでもLAN内のサーバーを明示する理由でhostsファイルにIPアドレスを記述するケース
今のWindowsでも使うことができるhostsファイル 80年代後半、TCP/IPを使うコンピュータでは、LAN内のマシンのIPアドレスとホスト名を記述したhostsファイルを使って、LAN内のホストの「名前解決」をしていた。ドメイン名システムは存在していたが、インターネット側に公開するホストの名前解決のみをして、LAN内でのみ使われるホストの名前解決には使われていなかった。 実用面から言えば、追加されるホストが必ずしも何らかのサービスを提供しているわけではないので、1週間程度の周期でhostsファイルを更新しても大きな問題は無かった。 このhostsファイルは、現在のWindows 11でも有効である。hostsファイルを使うことで、起動直後から名前解決ができるなどのメリットがあるからだ。 なぜ今更hostsファイルなのかというと、IPoEで割り当てられたグローバルアドレスを、外出先で
