Revolutions Milestones in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, and visualization with R and Python since 2008 As noted on the Google Open Source Blog last week, R package authors Dirk Eddelbuettel and Romain Francois recently gave a presentation on R at the Googleplex, on various topic related to "bridging" R into other systems. Their 90-minute talk is available for replay on YouTube (as part of th

SciViews is a collection of freely downloadable software for data acquisition and statistical analyses in sciences.Speed comparison of various number crunching packages (version 2) Speed of execution is an important aspect in choosing a data analysis software. Since it can vary from a factor 10, or more, on the same computer, this can make the difference between a quick-reacting package and anothe

Revolutions Milestones in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, and visualization with R and Python since 2008 At JSM 2011 today, three Google employees (amongst the more than 20 Google delegates there) gave a little insight into how statistical analysis with R yields better results for companies using Google's various advertising products. Bill Heavlin from Google kicked off the session with a talk

(March 26th Update: Video now available) Last night, I moderated our Bay Area R Users Group kick-off event with a panel discussion entitled “The R and Science of Predictive Analytics”, co-located with the Predictive Analytics World conference here in SF. The panel comprised of four recognized R users from industry: Bo Cowgill, Google Itamar Rosenn, Facebook David Smith, Revolution Computing Jim Po

Handling big data sets has always been a concern for R users. Once the size of the data set reaches above 50% of RAM, it is considered “massive”
