神経細胞のニューロン間で信号（刺激）をやりとりするために必要な物質は、神経伝達物質と呼ばれています。 ５０種類以上の神経伝達物質が確認されていますが、その働きが比較的解っているのは２０種といわれています。精神活動の面で重視されるのはγ-アミノ酪酸（ＧＡＢＡ-ギャバ）、ドーパミン、ノルアドレナリン、セロトニンなどです。特にドーパミン、ノルアドレナリン、セロトニンを総称してモノアミン神経伝達物質と言いますが、モノアミン神経伝達物質は、情動に大変大きな働きを起こし、また多数の脳内の部位に大きな影響を及ぼすことで知られています。 人間は何らかの刺激を受けると、大脳でまず解析し、その後海馬に送られます。海馬から「パペッツの回路」と呼ばれる各部位をめぐる流れに乗り、そこで感情が生まれます。生まれた感情はふたたび大脳に取りこまれ、長期記憶などになります。 快感を増幅する神経伝達物質 脊椎近くにあ
