「COCOA（ココア）」は新型コロナウイルス感染症の拡大防止に役立つためのアプリとして開発されたが、登録数は2001万件と、人口の約16％に過ぎない（削除して再ダウンロードした数も含めているので実際は更に低い割合になる）。 また、機能としては、陽性者と1メートル以内、15分以上接触した可能性を通知するアプリになるが、これまでの陽性登録件数は17日17時時点で合計1730件に留まっている。 日本でのこれまでの陽性者は、11月17日の各自治体が公表している感染者数（陽性者数）の1日の新規感染者1,686名を加え、全部で119,441名となっており、コロナ陽性になった人のわずか1.4％しか登録していないことになる。 感染者のうち、回復された方も多いので1.4％という数字は現状を表すものではないが、それでもCOCOAは接触確認アプリとしてその機能を果たしているとは言い難い現状となっている。
