マイクロソフト、「Firefox」用H.264ビデオプラグインをリリース
Microsoftは「HTML5 Extension for Windows Media Player Firefox Plug-in」をリリースした。このプラグインを使用することで、「Windows 7」ユーザーはH.264でエンコードされたHTML5ビデオを「Firefox」で再生できるようになる。Mozillaは、特許で保護されたビデオ技術であるH.264に対し、非難する姿勢を明確に示している。 Microsoftは「H.264は広く利用されている業界標準であり、広範なハードウェアに強く支持されている。この標準化によって、ユーザーは通常の消費者向けビデオカメラで撮影したものを簡単にウェブにアップし、Windows 7を搭載したPCなど、H.264に対応したどんなOSやデバイス上のウェブブラウザでも再生できる」と述べている。 このプラグインのリリースノートによれば、この機能拡張はFir
