ドイツ・マックスプランク電波天文学研究所のアーノルド・ベローチェ氏が率いる国際研究チームは、アルマ望遠鏡を用いて星間空間に新たな有機分子を検出しました。この分子はイソプロピルシアニド(i-C3H7CN)と呼ばれる分子で、既に星間空間に大量に存在することが知られていた分子(プロピルシアニド)の異性体(同じ数・同じ種類の原子からできているが構造が異なる分子)です。 波長860マイクロメートルの電波で見た天の川銀河の中心領域。今回観測対象となったのは天の川銀河の中心「いて座A*」から300光年離れたところにある巨大な星形成領域「いて座B2」で、枝分かれした構造を持つ有機分子イソプロピルシアニド(i-C3H7CN、左)とプロピルシアニド(n-C3H7CN、右)の両方から放たれる電波が、「いて座B2」で検出されました。 Credits: MPIfR/A.
