CentOS is an Enterprise Linux distribution based on the freely available sources from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. CentOSプロジェクトは4月8日(米国時間)、CentOSの最新版となるCentOS 5.6を公開した。CentOS 5.6はRed Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6に対応したバージョン。i386アーキテクチャ版とx86_64アーキテクチャ版が提供されている。 CentOS 5.5やまたはそれ以前の5系からCentOS 5.6へアップグレードするには「yum update」と実行すればいいと説明がある。ただしリリースノート (日本語版)では、5.5よりも前のバージョンのCentOSからアップグレードする場合には、次の手順で作業することが推奨されている。
