英語圏に住むことになるまでは would 「ウッド」とか should 「シュド」とか、could 「クッド」などは微妙なニュアンスを伝えるむずかしい言葉という印象があり、いまいち、どこで使っていいのか分かりませんでした。せいぜい、人にものをたのむときに、 Would you do it for me? 「これをやってくれませんか?」 「ウッジュー…」とか Would you please give me a hand? 「手伝ってくれませんか?」「ウッジュー、プリーズ…」、などの丁寧な表現方法ぐらいしか思い描けませんでした。 しかし、当たり前ですが、オーストラリアに住んでみると、よくこれらを耳にしました。仕事のシーンではよく、should have と言っているのを聞きました。 You should've asked. 「ユーシュドゥブ…」とか、You should have done
