To begin, we must have a more formal definition of what a LAN is. LAN stands for local area network. Hubs and switches usually are thought of as participating in a single LAN. Omicron VLAN
Virtual LAN (IEEE 802.1Q) 物理的な LAN と独立した仮想的な LAN を構築するための技術． ブロードキャストドメインは VLAN ごとに分離される． VLAN は VLAN ID によって識別される． VLAN はスイッチ内に論理的なスイッチ(というかブリッジ)を作成するような仕組み． VLAN 間の通信にはルータかレイヤ3スイッチが必要． ブロードキャストドメインが違うので，VLAN が異なると ARP で MAC アドレスを解決できない．そこでスイッチとルータ間を(トランクリンクで)接続する． 一方，レイヤ3スイッチでは，ルータを内蔵しており，VLAN 間のルーティングをスイッチ内部で処理できる． VLAN 用の論理インタフェースを Catalyst では SVI(Switched Virtual Interface) と呼んでいる． VLAN 間のルーテ
