過去7年間に鉄道自殺した4261人の職業や原因の内訳が、政府のデータから明らかになった。厚生労働省自殺対策推進室が筆者の要求に応じてデータを提供した。大まかな年齢階級も記載されているため、どのような人が、どのような原因で鉄道自殺したのか、初めて集計できるようになった。自殺対策推進室の担当者は「過去に同様のデータを公表・提供したことはない」と述べており、鉄道自殺に絞った職業や原因が判明するのは初めてとみられる。 自殺原因のトップは健康問題 集計したところ、鉄道自殺の5割強を「無職者」が占める一方で、「生徒・学生等」が430人と約1割に達していることがわかった。自営業以外の有職者（勤め人）は1246人で全体のほぼ3割を占め、無職者に次いで2番目に多かった。具体的な職種が判明しているうち最多だったのは「事務職」の151人、次いで「専門・技術職」の133人だった。 データは、警察庁の調査を厚労省が
