Windows PhoneやiOS 7が採用したことで知名度の上がった*1フラットデザインですが、これまでのスキューモフィズムUIを廃してそちらに移行する理由が私的にはどうも納得がいかないでいます。 そんなところにこんな記事が。 日経BP社 ITproより iOS 7がフラットデザインを採用した理由、「既存のメタファーでは表現できない時代に」 スキューモフィズムの背景ですが、元々コンピュータは、現実に近づけることで使う人に分かってもらう、という考え方あった。例えば電子書籍は木目調の本棚にないとその概念が伝わらない、日めくりカレンダーを見るとカレンダーを連想する、コンピュータに不慣れな人からすればゴミ箱の方が実際の書類を捨てることに近くて分かりやすい、というところから始まっています。 とはいえ今はデジタル化が成熟し、もともとメタファーにしていたものが、それを比喩として使う必要がなくなっている
日本人としては、 ○=よい、Yes ×=だめ、No というのは水や空気のように自然な事実。そして △=○と×の中間 というのも当然のことと考えがち。つまり、いい順に○→△→×ですね。 しかし、これ全くアメリカを初めとした英語圏では通用しないんですよねぇ。それ以外の国はよく知らないが、まず通じないのではないかと。どれくらい通用しないかと言って、たとえば日本人が 「★ ※ ♪ の3つをいい順に並べろ」 と聞かれても呆然とすると思うが、それくらい通じない。つまり、○=よい、×=だめ、も通じなければ、△がその間に位置するということも通じないのでした。 当地(やオーストラリア)では、テストの「マルをつける」時も、Vの右側が長めの「チェック」をするだけ。日本風にマルをつけると何のことかわからないか、または 「えっ、零点?」 と思われる可能性あり。 同じ流れで、電化製品のスイッチはマルと縦棒、つまり
