複数の言語を操る人を「ポリグロット」と呼びます。では、「ハイパーポリグロット」という言葉は聞いたことがありますか?ハイパーポリグロットとは、非常に多くの言語を話す人々を指します。ただし、この言葉の定義には幅があり、少なくとも6か国語という人もいれば、11か国語以上という人もいます。 いずれにせよ、私は、自分をハイパーポリグロットの一人であるとみなしています!私はフランス語だけを話す家庭で育ち、中学校で英語を学び始め、続いてドイツ語、ラテン語、古代ギリシャ語、そしてイタリア語を学びました。その後も絶えず新たな言語に挑戦し続け、これまでに21か国語を勉強してきました。その中には数十年間勉強し続けている言語もあれば、ほんの数か月間というものもあります。 このブログでは、プロの言語学習者として、また教師として、私が長年にわたり蓄積してきた学習のポイントや、上級学習者向けのとっておきのアドバイスを5
英語は世界各国で使われ、英語を話す人口は15億人以上に上ります。そのため、数えきれないほどの方言や訛りがあります。ある言語が、特定の場所(国、地域、都市など)で、その場所に特有の方法で話されている場合、それを地域方言と呼びます。そこでは他にはない語彙や独特の発音が用いられ、さらには文法や会話のルールも異なることがあります。 それでは今から、世界で話されている英語の地域方言を6つ、ご紹介しましょう。 アメリカ英語 イギリス英語 インド英語 シンガポール英語 ジャマイカ英語 ナイジェリア英語 アメリカ英語 アメリカ英語は、ハリウッド映画やポップミュージックを通じて世界中でよく知られています。また、米国の大学は世界各国の留学生を積極的に受け入れているため、これもアメリカ英語の普及の一因となっています。同じ米国内でも地域ごとに異なりますが、大まかに言えば次のような共通点がみられます。
言語は、常に社会のニーズに合わせて変化し、進化を続けています。例えば平安時代の文学『枕草子』の日本語は、現代の日本語とはかけ離れていますね。同じように、16~17世紀のシェイクスピアの著作も、私たちが知っている英語とはかなり異なる英語で書かれています。 英語が長い歴史の中でどのように変化してきたかについては、すでに広く知られていますが、100年後の英語はどうでしょうか?22世紀の英語話者は、どのような発音をし、どのような語彙や文法を使用しているのでしょうか?それを確実に知る方法は存在しませんが、これまでの変化と現在の傾向に基づいて、ある程度の予測を行うことはできます👀 今回は、今後100年間に英語に起こる可能性のある変化を5つ、予測してみました。 🔮予測その1:「Whom」がなくなり「Who」に統一そもそも、なぜ「who」と「whom」の違いがあるのでしょうか?その起源は、英語の名詞に
