In GCP images it is possible to create virtual MIDI devices and generally do stuff like audio routing, etc. At CircleCI, where we run many of our VMs on Ubuntu in GCP, several of our customers use this functionality to test audio equipment in their CI runs. Unfortunately they cannot run their tests on our AWS based VMs, as there is no sound support compiled into the kernel on the AWS kernel and im
An update to linux kernel on Ubuntu 17.10 that enabled the Intel SPI drivers results in a serial flash that is read only in Intel Broadwell and Haswell machines with serial flashes with SPI_NOR_HAS_LOCK set. Warning: 32bit iso on sourceforge for boot-repair-disk still contains unpatched Kernel. This is especially dangerous if boot-repair fails to repair the system to a bootable state, as there wil
What a fascinating bug!! My wife has complained that open office will never print on Tuesdays!?! Then she demonstrated it. Sure enough, won't print on Tuesday. Other applications print. I think this is the same bug. Here is my guess: Print to a postscript file. Observe the line: %%CreationDate: (Tue Mar 3 19:47:42 2009) Change "Tue" to anything else: %%CreationDate: (XTue Mar 3 19:47:42 2009) Save
14.04, locked screen to go to lunch, upon return from lunch cat was sitting on keyboard, login screen was frozen & unresponsive. To replicate: In unity hit ctrl-alt-l, place keyboard on chair. Sit on keyboard. Resolution: Switched to virtual terminal, restarted lightdm, lost all open windows in X session. What should have happened: lightdm not becoming unresponsive.
we're using LVM snapshots on our storage server to provide data for our live and staging instances. there are two mountpoints on the server, one for the origin volume, and one for the snapshot that are exported using NFS to our live/staging instances (webserver) today i noticed, that writes on our staging-webserver don't go to the snapshot as expected, but are hitting the origin volume, messing up

Binary package hint: checkinstall This is on ubuntu intrepid, 32bit. Personal computing today is a broader proposition than it was in 2004: phones, tablets, wearables and other devices are all part of the mix for our digital lives. From a competitive perspective, that broader market has healthy competition, with IOS and Android representing a meaningful share (see http://www.zdnet.com/windows-has-fallen-behind-apple-ios-and-google-android-7000008699/ and in particu

wow, are you serious, this bug should be classified as critical. Looking on google, a LOT of users are getting this error... The RTL8187SE is a miniPCI version of the Realtek 8187 wireless chipset. Until recently, it had no linux driver. A user on the msiwind.net forums emailed realtek about this, and they received a driver that was not listed on their site. The driver didn't compile for the 2.6.24 kernel included in ubuntu hardy, but after I made some modifications, it compiles and is reported to work. I have attached
As the subject says: the backlight level on my Panasonic Let's Note CF-S9 stays at full brightness and does not physically change even though the kernel seems to believe it's changing it. * The backlight buttons work (I get the light level slider thing). Looking in /sys/class/backlight/panasonic: > ls actual_brightness bl_power brightness max_brightness power subsystem uevent max_brightness = "21"
Hi all, On my new Thinkpad X201 with Core i5 and integrated Arrandale graphics with lucid i get a blank screen (no backlight) as soon as the i915 kicks in during boottime. Booting continues, i can hear the loginsound, but the display stays dark. External screen shows a picture, although with wrong resolution. Booting with the i915.modeset=0 results in working graphics, but only X with vesa. I trie

The XDMCP server in GDM does not work/work reliably. When connecting to this server a black screen is shown. To enable the XDMCP server edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf and set: [xdmcp] Enable=true This bug affects Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). It is fixed in 11.04 (Natty) which uses GDM 2.32.0. A patched GDM by Tom Ellis works better (read comments at the bottom of this bug report for details). https://launc

At the UNR 1.0 because of the undefined variable INITOUTPUT at the /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh, mysql-server-5.0 and mysql-server installation fails. Commenting the line 84 and 106 which are starting as if [ "INITOUTPUT" = "yes" ]; then .... fi //should be commented also is solving the problem. Indeed i don't know why this if condition is defined there. Anybody knows why the INITOUTPUT is written the

See Mark's closure comment here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1/comments/1834 ------ Microsoft has a majority market share in the new desktop PC marketplace. This is a bug which Ubuntu and other projects are meant to fix. As the philosophy of the Ubuntu Project states, "Our work is driven by a belief that software should be free and accessible to all."
