Update 2017: I wrote this a few years ago and fortunately the container space has matured quite a bit. Some of this article is less relevant now. However, the gist remains the same: containers can provide some nice advantages, but they also come with their own risks and maintenance burdens. Remember that there are other solutions to some of the same problems and they're sometimes a better option.
