This article covers how we evolved our tokens at Intuit to create a flexible taxonomy for a small but powerful set of semantic tokens. Intuit is the parent company for some well-known products such as Quickbooks, TurboTax, Mint, Mailchimp, and Credit Karma. Each product has their own design system. Several of them have their own dedicated design systems teams, as well as both Product and Marketing

The focus of this article is enabling code navigation in a TypeScript monorepo work seamlessly without any surprises, meaning that Go to definition in an IDE will work after a fresh clone, without having to build the projects beforehand. A solution with path aliases is presented and two solutions, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, are discussed for building the packages. You can find
Create beautiful, accessible, and adaptive color systems using contrast-ratio based generated colors. Leonardo now supports full theme generation. If you’ve created a color palette for a website or app, you’ve probably encountered a few of the challenges in creating color palettes for user interfaces. One of the most common challenges is meeting accessibility criteria such as a minimum contrast ra

Parameterized tests allow a developer to run the same test over and over again using different values. This can be useful if you need to test that your function can handle a range of different inputs, including edge cases. It can be impractical to write an individual test for each input. Mocha unit testsIn this contrived example, we want to test our validateName function with a a range of differen

Distilling a generally-accepted definition of what qualifies as artificial intelligence (AI) has become a revived topic of debate in recent times. Some have rebranded AI as “cognitive computing” or “machine intelligence”, while others incorrectly interchange AI with “machine learning”. This is in part because AI is not one technology. It is in fact a broad field constituted of many disciplines, ra

Whenever I see a link called Web Design Trends for this year I click it happily only to be disappointed within minutes. It’s always, without fail, trends from last year, or non-trends like: illustrations. Like, did you know that animations apparently is a big trend? Seriously, if you write a trend list and include full screen background video as a trend for 2016 you should really try to go online

A Product Manager is a strange occupation in Silicon Valley. You’re the mini CEO. But not really. You’re the jack of all trades but master of none. You’re the one with all the power and yet none at the very same time. You’re the one with all the responsibility and yet have none at the very same time. And truthfully, all of these are true, and none of them are true. Seriously, being a product manag

Auto layout is a great tool, it helps keep our sanity as developer, and it prevent us lazy people from using magic numbers when setting frames. But no technology comes without disadvantages, i have to say that i spent way too much time debugging some missing constraints, or some view deep down the view hierarchy would break the whole layout by adding a conflicting constant, when that happens all h
